I could find the generator serial number, but it was a little more difficult to find the engine serial number.
The generator dates anywhere from 1984 (intoduced) to 1998 when it was discontinued. It has the 2.5 HP side valve G100 engine (great little engine). The serial numbers from the engine crank case castings are: G100- 3213882 (older one, has the older styled recoil starter).
Honda Outboard model # and serial # do not provide model year information. There is nothing on the motor to determine model year of the engine. Honda has determined that you do not need that information. Honda did not start dating their engines till 98 so your engine being before 98 there is no way to tell what year your engine is.

With Honda EU22000i generators replacing the super popular EU2000i generators, we have been asked this question a few times.

The answer is maybe.

Customers’ existing EU2000i generators will be compatible with new EU2200i generators in some cases. It depends on the serial number of your generator.
